I probably should have let you know of my plan for a month-long blogging hiatus before now. Anyway, it's over and I am back. After I started packing boxes, I decided that all of November would be dedicated to simply surviving. I'm glad to report that we did. (Survive, that is.) What a blessing. Seriously.
November 10th was moving day. It was pretty much disastrous. There was snow, ice, fights, tears, etc. As we poured all our energy into finishing the house, we had none left for organizing the move, which basically means we threw everything into boxes (keyword: threw) and drove away. I think I've murmured enough this last month to everyone I've talked to, I'm tired of doing that, so I'm only briefly mentioning how painstaking the last few weeks have been simply to note it, just in case, years down the road, I forget. I remember sitting, utterly exhausted on our bare new floor, so overwhelmed and in tears, when the same thought came to me as the night I was in hard labor with Danny: No one can help me out of this situation but my own self, so its best just to get to work. So, that's what we've done, taking it a day at a time. And here we are.
Let me re-tune and rephrase: HERE WE ARE : )
December is here, and last month is no more and we're finally getting to the point where we can sit down for two seconds without feeling like we should be doing something else. While there is a lot I want to forget about last month, there were some sweet things, too.
Things I want to remember:
-How thankful we were (are) that papa and grandma keller took the boys for the weekend while we moved. We could not have survived without them. Truly.
-How snowy and freezing cold it was the morning we packed the moving van.
-Sitting next to and laughing at Mr. Keller as he drove the moving van. The steering wheel was huge! He looked like a city bus driver and apparently, in exhausted delirium, it was really funny.
-Going to Perkins for dinner at 10pm the night we moved. Hot chocolate and pie never tasted so good.
-Eating fast food for three weeks because our kitchen was not done.
-Being so excited when the Lowes truck drove up with our brand new appliances!
-Buying a new couch (it won't be delivered until January, but it's our first-ever brand new piece of furniture! Yay!)
-Thanksgiving weekend coming just in time - we so much needed the rest, TLC and home-cooked meals we received last week at the Kellers. Thank you!
-The night we had our first fire in our fireplace (ohhh, the fireplace!)
-Using our oven for the first time - we made chocolate chip cookies!
-Organizing my big pantry! I'm in love! Morg keeps telling me how beautiful it is in there! It's his favorite room in the house and he loves to go in and shut the door. He tells me he's having "quiet time" in there and that he's just looking at the cake sprinkles. So silly!
-My big blue spruce tree outside our family room window. It's so huge (really, really huge!) and healthy and lovely and green. There are so many birds living in it, and an owl and a fat little squirrel we see each day.
-How excited I've been to be doing laundry INSIDE THE HOUSE, instead of in the garage!
-The feeling of satisfaction seeing the vision we had for this home finally come together. June 5th was the day I fell hard for this house -- almost six months to date. I've been envisioning such bright things for it ever since then. People keep asking me if I'm loving it yet, and to be honest, I'm not quite there. That sounds so bratty, I know. We're so blessed. We've just felt overwhelmed for so long, I think after we've had a few months of rest, following such an intense couple of months, I may have a different answer. I keep telling myself beautiful things take hard work. And well, it's looking more beautiful to me every day.
For now, I'm just glad we're here. I'm glad we're (mostly) unpacked. I'm glad that it's December and that Christmas is around the corner. I'm glad that the Hobbit is coming out soon. (Ahhh!) I'm glad we have blinds up in our bedrooms. (Sorry to our neighbors who undoubtedly got a few good shows.) I'm glad for the nap I got this afternoon and that pumpkin bread is cooling upstairs. Mostly, I'm just glad home is finally in the making.
Xo.
