September's here!

Last Thursday, I almost took Morgan swimming, as a sort of 'one-last-time' gesture. It was really hot, but the wind was slightly too breezy, and I got a little too tired that afternoon, so I decided we'd try for the next day. Well, last Thursday, summer ended. Just like that. We've been long-sleeved every since.

But that's how we roll in East Idaho. After six years, you'd think I'd get used to it, but my homegrown roots in the 'banana belt' must grow too deep. Every winter (and fall), I wish I was home, where summer lingers longer and winter sings a softer song.

I've made a home here, too, though. And we've been building traditions for a few years now, without really knowing it. And Morgan's been wearing new (warm) pajamas so sweet and snuggly, I've wanted to eat him. And I've been trying to envision what decor to get out of storage and how to arrange it. I've been simmering cinnamon on the stove and willing my pumpkins to grow a little bigger.

Today is the first day of September, which means it's time to change. It means pulling out scarves, and orange pullovers. It means reading more, and running less. It means a quiet neighborhood again. It means longer evenings, cooler nights. New colors, new recipes, and more time for snuggling. And who wouldn't welcome that?

Dear September, ready or not, I accept (you).

Love,
Me
