Loving this picture of a bathroom nook from Country Living. It's so simple, crisp, and organzied.
Pictures of organized spaces have really been calling to me lately since one of my more superficial goals this year is to organize more, organize better, then stick to it!
Closets and drawers are a super big weakness of mine and I want to change that.
I want everything to have a place and if it doesn't have a place, then I don't need it. There is truly no sense in hanging onto things we don't use.
When we moved my grandma into my parents' home five years ago, she left her own home of over fifty years (I think it was actually closer to sixty years).
Nic C. and I had ended our first college semester and had the opportunity of spending our winter-break days going through her eight-bedroom house and separating garbage, from donation, from keepsake, as we tried to prepare to put the house on the market (still a little heartbreaking).
While it was quite the kick for me since I am quite the sentimentalist, it was also exhausting to see the things that were kept and stored that so weren't necessary. The house was a big, HUGE mess.
For instance, boxed-up clothes from dad's high school days which included immodestly skin-tight, striped sweaters and polyester pants (the Uncle Rico kind)!!! Jars and jars of bottled food from dates extending back to the '70s (and since the garbage dumpster people clearly stated no glass was to be thrown away, we had to empty the contents of ALL of jars into the disposal....disgusting). I say 'contents' because sometimes, because of age, it was impossible to tell what food was canned in the first place. My stomach is turning from the memory.
And oh, the papers. Loads and loads of papers. And every. single. greeting. card. ever sent to them (birthday, Christmas, and otherwise). Some were charming and some were from people we had no idea who they were.
I tell you, it was nuts! And it really sort of cured me from the clutters. Forever, I think.
By and by, my goal is to organize what I do have, to take time to put things away properly and to fold things nicely.
